решил я себе поставить себе эту ОС.
Что посоветуете чтобы мне успешно избежать подводных камней?

Эта ОС уже не поддерживается Be Inc., а ее поддержку осуществляет сообщество open-source, поэтому у этой очень хорошей системы не очень радужные перспективы, к сожалению.

Прежде всего нужно проверить, что есть подходящие драйвера.

если честно то это классная штука, и с драйверами особых проблем не должно возникнуть. последняя официфльная версия при установке создает
имидж на который и устанавливается а загрузка происходит с флоппи, так-что что-то испортить практически невозможно.

Ставил я ее себе, даже дрова на видяху потом ставил, хотя с дефолтными прикольнее было - все черно-белое. Ставиться на Fat-радел, как обычная прога для Винды, грузишься с дискеты и все. Хотя много чего прикручивать прийдется (н/р русские буквы). Я поигрался и вернулся в свой любимый Линукс
Попробуй, может понравится!

Рекомендую посмотреть BeMax - сборка на основе свободной версии

ОСь хорошая, занимает всего 550Мб, Классный загрузщик , своя файловая система -сответствено устойчива и быстрая, но как говорили выше, проект закрыт!

посети Qube.ru - лучший сайт по BeOS на русском.
Из дистрибутивов советую BeMAX - он на основе бесплатного дистрибутива Personal Edition, но наполнен всевозмоными патчами, драйверами, играми и т.д.
Сайт BeMAX - www.beosmax.org, но сейчас он на ремонте иил типа того.

А я бы BeMax не советовал весит на порядок больше чем РЕ. Из софта который там заложен тебе мало что понадобиться. Лучше качай РЕ, а софт качай с тех сайтов которые укказал уважаемый WaNeZ

Vision:
- Added Jargon lookup to Vision.
- The "Unicode" encoding in prefs does what expected: direct pass-through as UTF-8 text, rather than using the UTF-16 conversion which breaks IRC.
- Fixed the language load path problem.

libznet:
- BNetServices now sends SIGHUP to inetd on update as it should.
- Fix uninitialized variables which resulted in address data not getting populated properly.
- Don't save out the dhcp info, as this stops new leases after reboot from working correctly.
- Now we have a PPP/PPPoE log accessable from the Deskbar replicant.
- Now the PPP preferences panel will correctly detect if a PPP/PPPoE connection is already available! The PPP Monitor thread is started on AttachedToWindow() right now and not on Connect() only.

Сделай бэкап основной системы и ставь..
На отдельный разел.
Единственное - крайне не советуе Pe и русскую сборку.....
Последняя у меня даже не загружается толком...
Хотя мольза от неё и в таком состояеннии есть (загрузчик там офигенный).

А как насчет камней от AMD? На моем AthlonXP 2500+ она работать не хочет. Чипсет, кстати, от nVidia.

Я не знаю что такое BeOS но, знаю Zeta. Так вот, там главная проблема- память. И что самое странное, много памяти- не работает. Максимум 768 МБ. При 256 МБ , разрешение экрана 800х600х16, хоть умри. При 512 МБ нет никаких проблем с разрешением. Зато можно выбрать частоту кадров дробной, например: 92,2 Hz. С драйверами конечно, не так сытно, как под винды... А в общем, мне понравилась, весьма удобна в настройках, виндам ещё долго до таких развиваться. И, думаю, не разовьются...

Кстати, а будет ли она работать на 64 разрядном Атлоне, да с PCI-E видеокартой? На сайте никакой информации об этом.

Как сообщает издание Heise.De - http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/71775 , в окружном суде Маннгейма находится дело о банкротном производстве в отношении компании YellowTab, включая блокирование их счетов и назначение конкурсного (банкротного) управляющего.

Для тех, кто не в курсе экономических деталей, конкурсное производство может быть начато как самой компанией, в частности, для защиты от кредиторов и спасения компании, так и сторонними лицами - теми же кредиторами, стремящимися получить хоть что-то из долгов, пока не поздно.

По сообщению того же Heise.De сотрудники YT утверждают, что они не подавали заявление о банкротстве (и не видят для него причин), так что это скорей всего наезд кого-либо из обиженных семейством Корц в прошлой жизни

Редакторское примечание: Известно по прецедентам, что лично Бернд Корц ну ооочень любит тянуть время с оплатой по уже совершённым сделкам - так было и с FatTracker, и с GobeProductive, пользуясь слабой позицией другой стороны. Возможно, такое произошло и в этот раз, но оппонент оказался юридически настырным
