This obscure Bill Evans trio set (with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones) went unissued until the mid-'70s when the pianist decided that it was worth releasing as a fine example of bassist Chambers' work. Very much a spontaneous set (recorded after the rhythm section made part of a record accompanying trumpeter Chet Baker), the group runs through a few standards such as "You and the Night and the Music," "Green Dolphin Street" and two versions of "Woody'n You." Although lacking the magic of Evans' regular bands, this CD reissue has its strong moments and the pianist's fans will be interested in getting the early sampling of his work. A special bonus is the rare first take of "All of You" from the legendary Village Vanguard engagement by the 1961 Evans Trio (with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian).

Феликс Словачек

Феликс Словачек - это целая планета на мировом джазовом небосклоне. Без участия этого блистательного саксофониста и кларнетиста из Праги, без его знаменитого биг-бэнда не обходится почти ни один фестиваль мирового уровня.Принимал участие в "Мировом джазовом ревю", которое проводил в Доме музыки Даниил Крамер. В программе, посвященной Каунту Бэйси и Гленну Миллеру, - вечнозеленые темы классического джаза.
Он начинал как артист симфонического оркестра, потом играл с лидирующими биг-бэндами, выступал в телевизионной программе Карела Готта и давал сольные концерты. Он сочинил массу песен и инструментальных композиций, создал интересные аранжировки. Феликс Словачек сделал более 500 записей, проданных тиражом около 2 млн экземпляров.
В 1985 г. Словачек стал главным дирижером Big Band Radio Prague - одного из ведущих джазовых коллективов страны.

ANAEL
Although French Canadian vocalist Anael has a lushly orchestrated sound that's obviously indebted to Enya, she isn't nearly as influenced by Celtic folk, preferring to draw inspiration (and, occasionally, repertory) from classical, choral, and liturgical music, as well as jazz, pop, and new age. Still, most of her material is penned in the present day by her collaborator Bradfield, who generally handles composition, arrangements, instruments, and production on her recordings. Born and raised in Saguenay, a town in northern Quebec, Anael became interested in music as a teenager and entered several talent competitions; however, after performing locally on both radio and television, she put music on the back burner until meeting Bradfield in 1993. After Bradfield released his own album, Harmony in the Chaos, in 1995, the duo set about recording Anael's own debut the next year. Titled Light Of Refinement, the record received positive reviews upon its release in 1997, as well as comparisons to ethereal female vocalists like Enya and Maire Brennan. The follow-up Unconditional appeared in 1998, further establishing the duo's concern with spiritual themes. 1999's Language Of The Soul added French lyrics to Anael's array of languages, which already included English and Latin; additionally, several Hebrew texts were used as source material.

ON THE EDGE

Simon Stockhausen and James morrison met and worked together on a Lalo Schifrin project with the Cologne Radio Orchestra two years ago and immediately formed a musical relationship that has taken them both to new places. Since that meeting they have done a number of performances, both in Australia and Europe, which have stunned audiiences with their sheer energy and spontaneity.

The time was right to record this synergy and they just needed the right "vehicle" to do it. The perfect accompanyiing players were found in a group of young musicians from Perth, Western Australia, who are not only virtuosic but have a sensitivity to the kind of music James & Simon created.

Troy Roberts (Tenor Sax), Matthew Jodrall (Trumpet), Andrew Fisenden (Drums) and Dane Alderson (6 string Bass) all feature brilliantly on this recording with their high energy, creative approach. They are joined by Sri Lanken born Sunil de Silva, a percussionist who has added his beautiful feel to previous Morrison recordings.

Thi smusic draws on many diverse influences from new age to jazz, funk and Latin. It has been described as "urban groove" - what you call it is unimportant; it moves people in different ways.

In the end, the thing that gets you is the groove.
