The fabled summer 1972 tour through the U.S. and Canada is revered by Stones fans worldwide as arguably the band's greatest ever, and it remains enshrined in the annals of rock lore and popular imagination as the masterpiece speedball of indoor triumph, outdoor maelstrom, and backstage debauch.

It is well known that, after the tour starters in Vancouver and Seattle, a typical Stones set comprised these 15 songs in this sequence: Brown Sugar, Bitch, Rocks Off, Gimme Shelter, Happy, Tumbling Dice, Love In Vain, Sweet Virginia, You Can't Always Get What You Want, All Down The Line, Midnight Rambler, Bye Bye Johnny, Rip This Joint, Jumping Jack Flash, Street Fighting Man.

Notably absent was anything from before 1968 in the Stones' catalog (excepting in the occasional encore medley). This tour also marked the banishment of their dark epic "Sympathy for the Devil", which had been (fairly or not) associated with the killing at Altamont, from Stones American performances for much of the 1970s.

On a very few occasions, the band would add a different song (or two), but these 15 formed a predictable core. Jagger himself admitted such near the end of the tour, lamenting, "It was kind of disappointing to find we couldn't vary the show more. When we try to stick in a few extra numbers, the whole show kind of tilts out of balance. We kept to the sequence that felt best for the show."

Вторая пластинка (LP) "Роллингов", выпущенная в Америке. Монофоническая запись(!). То, что в те времена выходило у них в Англии и в Америке, сильно различалось. За основу было положено английское издание (EP) Five by Five (треки 1-3, 7, 11). Поскольку формат EP был для Америки редкостью, его дополнили до LP - стандартной долгоиграющей пластинки. Название 12 X 5 расшифровывается как 12 песен, исполняемых 5-ю музыкантами.

Пластинка переиздана в виде CD ABKCO Records (с солидным бонусом) в 2002 г. Это было сугубо коллекционное издание тиражом 500 экземпляров. Я копировал с русского переиздания, сделанного фирмой "СД-Максимум". Конечно, там написано на обложке:

Но, в конце концов, жители буржуинских стран, платившие весьма неслабые (надо полагать!) бабки за это коллекционное издание, были бы не в восторге узнать, что где-то в России некая фирмочка "СД-Максимум" выдала на-гора тот же самый продукт по более чем сходной цене (я вообще купил за 55 руб., с 50% скидкой, поскольку никто покупать не хотел). Так что, я думаю, с "СД-Максимум" мы квиты.

Загадочный чувак с дурацким именем Nanker Phelge - это псевдоним, который присвоен композициям, написанным всей группой. Так было указано на оригинальной пластинке. При переиздании на CD авторами этих композиций указаны Mick Jagger и Keith Richards, что несправедливо по отношению ко всем остальным "Роллингам". Однако "Nanker Phelge" фигурирует в качестве автора на одной из обложек оригинального LP, воспроизведенной на большой-большой обложке компакт-диска.

Композиции, вошедшие в бонус, записаны с 1964 по август 1966 г. "Nanker Phelge" в качестве автора сумел выжить, но оказался разделенным слэшем. В списочке вверху я это поправил.

Особого упоминания заслуживают всяческие полиграфические прибамбасы. Оно и понятно, издание-то коллекционное (по крайней мере, было таким в 2002 г.). Сам сидюк воспроизводит пластинку 1964 года. Обложка диска разворачивается в листок 3х2 (за единицу принят размер CD), на котором воспроизведены обложки оригинального LP, а также некоторых редких изданий "Роллингов". На рисунке с обложки диска можно видеть мексиканское издание, кроме него, там много чего еще. Кроме обложки, имется вкладыш (постер) 2х2 с большой фотографией коллектива, на обратной стороне приведены слова песен исходного LP (на бонус пороха не хватило). Постер я сканировал по частям и объединил прогой Zoner Panorama Maker. Те, кого не устраивает результат, могут сделать это самостоятельно: исходные сканы положены в архив.
