Learning SQL on SQL Server 2005
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Sikha Bagui,Richard Earp
ISBN: 0596102151
Publisher: O'Reilly Media, Inc.
Year: 2006
Pages: 342

Product Description
Anyone who interacts with today's modern databases needs to know SQL (Structured Query Language), the
standard language for generating, manipulating, and retrieving database information. In recent years,
the dramatic rise in the popularity of relational databases and multi-user databases has fueled a healthy
demand for application developers and others who can write SQL code efficiently and correctly.
If you're
new to databases, or need a SQL refresher, Learning SQL on SQL Server 2005 is an ideal step-by-step introduction
to this database query tool, with everything you need for programming SQL using Microsoft's SQL Server
2005-one of the most powerful and popular database engines used today. Plenty of books explain database
theory. This guide lets you apply the theory as you learn SQL. You don't need prior database knowledge,
or even prior computer knowledge.
Based on a popular university-level course designed by authors Sikha
Saha Bagui and Richard Walsh Earp, Learning SQL on SQL Server 2005 starts with very simple SQL concepts,
and slowly builds into more complex query development. Every topic, concept, and idea comes with examples
of code and output, along with exercises to help you gain proficiency in SQL and SQL Server 2005. With this
book, you'll learn:
Beginning SQL commands, such as how and where to type an SQL query, and how to create,
populate, alter and delete tables
How to customize SQL Server 2005's settings and about SQL Server 2005's
functions
About joins, a common database mechanism for combining tables
Query development, the use
of views and other derived structures, and simple set operations
Subqueries, aggregate functions
and correlated subqueries, as well as indexes and constraints that can be added to tables in SQL Server
2005
Whether you're an undergraduate computer science or MIS student, a self-learner who has access
to the new Microsoft database, or work for your company's IT department, Learning SQL on SQL Server 2005
will get you up to speed on SQL in no time.

Expert C# 2005 Business Objects, Second Edition (Expert)
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Rockford Lhotka
ISBN: 1590596323
Publisher: Apress
Year: 2006
Pages: 696

Product Description
This book is a translation of Lhotka’s industry-standard title, Visual Basic.NET Business Objects,
into the language of C#. Rockford Lhotka’s ideas continue to be extremely influential in all programmer
circles of any language, but most naturally it will be C# developers over the next couple of years at least
who will most likely be involved in the kinds of programming projects and architectures that Lhotka discusses.
This book will benefit you! Therefore, while the VB.NET book proves its punch, the new C# version will
find a more natural audience than the VB version. C# Business Objects will show C# developers the kinds
of opportunities that .NET makes available. It will allow them to make clear, informed decisions about
the right way to develop their enterprise C# projects, and show them how the trade-off between performance
and flexibility can be made successfully. This book contains the author's Component-based, Scalable,
Logical Architecture (CSLA .NET), an object-oriented framework that can act as the foundation for a
diverse range of enterprise applications, and which readers are free to examine, use, and modify.

Semantic Web and Peer-to-Peer : Decentralized Management and Exchange of Knowledge and Information
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s):
ISBN: 3540283463
Publisher: Springer
Year: 2006
Pages: 366

Product Description
Just like the industrial society of the last century depended on natural resources, today’s society
depends on information and its exchange. Semantic Web technologies address the problem of information
complexity by providing advanced support for representing and processing distributed information,
while peer-to-peer technologies address issues of system complexity by allowing flexible and decentralized
information storage and processing. Systems that are based on Semantic Web and peer-to-peer technologies
promise to combine the advantages of the two mechanisms. A peer-to-peer style architecture for the Semantic
Web will avoid both physical and semantic bottlenecks that limit information and knowledge exchange.
Staab and Stuckenschmidt structured the selected contributions into four parts: Part I, "Data Storage
and Access", prepares the semantic foundation, i.e. data modelling and querying in a flexible and yet
scalable manner. These foundations allow for dealing with the organization of information at the individual
peers. Part II, "Querying the Network", considers the routing of queries, as well as continuous queries
and personalized queries under the conditions of the permanently changing topological structure of
a peer-to-peer network. Part III, "Semantic Integration", deals with the mapping of heterogeneous
data representations. Finally Part IV, "Methodology and Systems", reports experiences from case studies
and sample applications. The overall result is a state-of-the-art description of the potential of Semantic
Web and peer-to-peer technologies for information sharing and knowledge management when applied jointly.
It serves researchers in academia and industry as an excellent and lasting reference and source of inspiration.

Product Description
Pro Apache Ant is ideal for Java developers who need to use the leading open source build tool out there
for development and project management. It is organized around chronological tasks instead of alphabetical
functions, using a sample application throughout the set-up, from calling database scripts to unit
testing.
Practical examples are used at every stage and each task includes a concrete example. The configuration
files are XML based, so there's no need for you to write shell commands. Each task is run by an object that
implements a particular task interface. And if you really need to execute a shell command, Ant has a task
that allows different commands based on the OS.

Foundation ASP for Dreamweaver 8 (Foundation)
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Omar Elbaga,Rob Turnbull
ISBN: 1590595688
Publisher: friends of ED
Year: 2006
Pages: 360

Product Description
Do you want to learn about Microsoft's ASP and use it via Dreamweaver 8 to add the power of a database to your
website? Use dynamic web forms to exchange data between you and your users? Build complete web applications?
This book shows you how to do all that and more. Dreamweaver 8 takes a lot of the hard work out of performing
tasks such as integrating a database into your website, but it can't do everything. That's why this book
not only shows you how to use all of Dreamweaver's functions, but also shows you how the underlying code
functions, so you can then work around Dreamweaver's shortcomings. There's no attempt to turn you into
a code guru, but you'll come away with sufficient knowledge of basic ASP to have the confidence to dive
into the Dreamweaver code and tweak it to your own requirements. The emphasis is exclusively on ASP, so
you don't waste any time on information that's not relevant to what you want to do. Omar and Rob first take
you through the latest version of Dreamweaver, and how ASP fits into it, then look in-depth at setting
up your work environment -- installing ASP, Access (and SQL Server), and the IIS web server, making sure
they are all working together, and setting up a new web site via Dreamweaver. They then get to work, using

Operating Systems Design and Implementation (3rd Edition) (Prentice Hall Software Series)
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Andrew S Tanenbaum,Albert S Woodhull
ISBN: 0131429388
Publisher: Prentice Hall
Year: 2006
Pages: 1080

Product Description
Most books on operating systems deal with theory while ignoring practice. While the usual principles
are covered in detail, the book describes a small, but real UNIX-like operating system: MINIX. The book
demonstrates how it works while illustrating the principles behind it. Operating Systems: Design
and Implementation Second Edition
provides the MINIX source code. The relevant selections of the
MINIX code are described in detail. When it first came out, MINIX caused something of a revolution. Within
weeks, it had its own newsgroup on USENET, with 40,000 people. Most wanted to make MINIX bigger and fancier.
Instead, Linux was created. That has become quite popular, very large, and complicated. MINIX, on the
other hand, has remained small and suitable for instruction and example. The book has been revised to
include updates in MINIX, which started out as a v 7 unix clone for a floppy-disk only 8088. It is now aimed
at 386, 486, and pentium machines and is based on the international posix standard instead of on v7. There
are now also versions of MINIX for the Macintosh and SPARC available. Professional programmers will
find this book to be a valuable resource and reference book.

Product Description
Professional C# 2005 prepares you to program in C#, and it provides the necessary background information
on how the .NET architecture works. It provides examples of applications that use a variety of related
technologies, including database access, dynamic web pages, advanced graphics, and directory access.
The only requirement is that you are familiar with at least one other high-level language used on Windows
– either C++, VB, or J++. It starts with a tutorial on C# and the .NET framework. This introduction
assumes no prior knowledge of .NET, but it does move rapidly, on the assumption that the reader is an experienced
programmer. Once this background knowledge is established, the book starts to sweep through the vast
.NET class library, showing how you can use C# to solve various tasks. This comprehensive coverage is
one of the key selling points of previous versions of the book, and is maintained and enhanced with this
new edition by adding new chapters on Generics, ObjectSpaces, Yukon, and Indigo. Some reference material
is included either as appendices or is available to download from the Wrox website. After the introduction
and initial chapter, the book is divided into a number of sections that cover both the C# language and its
application in a variety of areas. Coverage includes: • Writing Windows applications
and Windows services • Writing web pages and web services with ASP.NET • Manipulating
XML using C# 2005 • Understanding .NET Assemblies • Using ADO.NET to access
databases • Integration with COM, COM+, and Active Directory • Distributed
applications with .NET Remoting • Generating graphics using C# 2005 • Accessing

Software Engineering for Internet Applications
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Eve Andersson,Philip Greenspun,Andrew Grumet
ISBN: 0262511916
Publisher: The MIT Press
Year: 2006
Pages: 376

Product Description
After completing this self-contained course on server-based Internet applications software, students
who start with only the knowledge of how to write and debug a computer program will have learned how to build
web-based applications on the scale of Amazon.com. Unlike the desktop applications that most students
have already learned to build, server-based applications have multiple simultaneous users. This fact,
coupled with the unreliability of networks, gives rise to the problems of concurrency and transactions,
which students learn to manage by using the relational database system. After working their way to the
end of the book, students will have the skills to take vague and ambitious specifications and turn them
into a system design that can be built and launched in a few months. They will be able to test prototypes
with end-users and refine the application design. They will understand how to meet the challenge of extreme
business requirements with automatic code generation and the use of open-source toolkits where appropriate.
Students will understand HTTP, HTML, SQL, mobile browsers, VoiceXML, data modeling, page flow and interaction
design, server-side scripting, and usability analysis. The book, which originated as the text for an
MIT course, is suitable for classroom use and will be a useful reference for software professionals developing
multi-user Internet applications. It will also help managers evaluate such commercial software as
Microsoft Sharepoint of Microsoft Content Management Server.

Software Abstractions : Logic, Language, and Analysis
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): Daniel Jackson
ISBN: 0262101149
Publisher: The MIT Press
Year: 2006
Pages: 504

Product Description
In Software Abstractions Daniel Jackson introduces a new approach to software design that draws on traditional
formal methods but exploits automated tools to find flaws as early as possible. This approach--which
Jackson calls "lightweight formal methods" or "agile modeling"--takes from formal specification
the idea of a precise and expressive notation based on a tiny core of simple and robust concepts but replaces
conventional analysis based on theorem proving with a fully automated analysis that gives designers
immediate feedback. Jackson has developed Alloy, a language that captures the essence of software abstractions
simply and succinctly, using a minimal toolkit of mathematical notions. The designer can use automated
analysis not only to correct errors but also to make models that are more precise and elegant. This approach,
Jackson says, can rescue designers from "the tarpit of implementation technologies" and return them
to thinking deeply about underlying concepts. Software Abstractions introduces the key elements
of the approach: a logic, which provides the building blocks of the language; a language, which adds a
small amount of syntax to the logic for structuring descriptions; and an analysis, a form of constraint
solving that offers both simulation (generating sample states and executions) and checking (finding
counterexamples to claimed properties). The book uses Alloy as a vehicle because of its simplicity and
tool support, but the book's lessons are mostly language-independent, and could also be applied in the
context of other modeling languages.

Perl Hacks : Tips & Tools for Programming, Debugging, and Surviving (Hacks)
Amazon

Product Details
Author(s): chromatic,Damian Conway,Curtis "Ovid" Poe
ISBN: 0596526741
Publisher: O'Reilly Media, Inc.
Year: 2006
Pages: 296

Product Description
With more than a million dedicated programmers, Perl has proven to be the best computing language for
the latest trends in computing and business. While other languages have stagnated, Perl remains fresh
thanks to its community-based development model, which encourages the sharing of information among
users. This tradition of knowledge-sharing allows developers to find answers to almost any Perl question
they can dream up.
And you can find many of those answers right here in Perl Hacks. Like all books in O'Reilly's
"Hacks" series, Perl Hacks appeals to a variety of programmers, whether you're a experienced developer
or a dabbler who simply enjoys exploring technology. Each hack is a short lesson - some are practical exercises
that teach you essential skills, while others merely illustrate some of the fun things that Perl can do.
Most hacks have two parts: a direct answer to the immediate problem you need to solve right now and a deeper,
subtler technique that you can adapt to other situations. Learn how to add CPAN shortcuts to the Firefox
web browser, read files backwards, write graphical games in Perl, and much more.
For your convenience,
Perl Hacks is divided by topic - not according to any sense of relative difficulty - so you can skip around
and stop at any hack you like. Chapters include:

Productivity Hacks
User Interaction
Data Munging

Working with Modules
Object Hacks
Debugging
Whether you're a newcomer or an expert, you'll find
great value in Perl Hacks, the only Perl guide that offers something useful and fun for everyone.
